MEET OUR PRESIDENT

Serena L. Blanco is a radiant and anointed coloratura soprano whose passion for worship shines in every note. A devoted minister of music, she has long been called to minister through song, ushering hearts into God's presence with power and grace.

Born to gospel legends Ernest James of the Sensational Nightingales and Dr. Thomasina Johnson James, Serena's musical journey began at age three under her mother's guidance. A native of Philadelphia, she excelled academically and musically, studying piano, clarinet, flute, and organ, and was frequently selected to represent her school and district in special programs.

Serena earned induction into the Chapel of Four Chaplains and the National Honor Society, later graduating summa cum laude from Cheyney University with a degree in secondary education. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

An accomplished educator, Serena has served in both public and private schools, including as principal of Wynnefield Academy. She holds a master's in organizational management and regularly leads workshops on leadership, development, and women's empowerment in business and ministry.

In 1989, she founded the Gospel Music Preservation Alliance, Inc., Philadelphia's leading nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding Black gospel music. Her commitment to the music ministry has earned her national honors, including the McDonald's Corporation Award and numerous community service accolades.

Serena's voice has graced international stages and appeared on various broadcast platforms. She has performed for global dignitaries including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., President Lech Wałęsa, and prominent U.S. legislators. As a lead vocalist with the celebrated Johnny Thompson Singers, she has shared the stage with gospel greats like Trudy Pitts and Mr. C., touring extensively across Europe and Scandinavia. She is married to Ronald J. Blanco, and together they are the proud parents of their son, Ronald Andre Blanco.

HONORS & LEADERSHIP

Over the decades, GMPA and its founder, Serena Blanco, have received numerous accolades from the City of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and civic organizations in recognition of their artistic and humanitarian impact.

GMPA is spiritually guided by Rev. Dr. Albert Morgan, lovingly known as "God's Mailman," pastor of Union Baptist Church, EMER, in Bridgeton, NJ. A respected figure in gospel music and former chairman of the NCGCC Board, Pastor Morgan exemplifies the Alliance's mission: to serve through sacred song, community fellowship, and unwavering faith.
